Description: This project represents the continuation of an older joint project (ME-459) and was focused on the two-mica granites, which occur in the south-western part of the South Bohemian batholith. These granites are situated in the northern Mühlviertel in Austria, in the Bavaria Forest in Germany, and in the Šumava Mts. on territory of the Czech Republic. Each sub-type of these granites was characterized both mineralogically and chemically and its temporal position in the evolution of the batholith was identified. Previous concepts of evolution of the two-mica granites from the SW part of the SBB were critically evaluated and a new integral concept of origin and evolution of this important rock type was created. Since the two-mica granites are the most significant granitoid type in the Variscides, the results of the project have over regional importance. |
